Business Ideas in a Recession

The world is rebounding from its recession but for a lot of people, it was a lesson in reality.  Do you ever want to put your livelihood in the hands of someone else again?  For those people who were already leaning toward self-employment or starting their own business, this just reinforces the point.

However, dream as you might, how will you ever be able to find financing for your business start-up?  The reason why banks failed in the recession was because they had over extended themselves in giving out credit and then people couldn’t pay up.  It is highly unlikely loans will be given out freely like once before.  You could ask your friends and family for a loan but chances are, they are hard up too in the recession.  Therefore, you will probably have to fund your business yourself so you better choose your industry carefully.

You might think it is a pipe dream but there are businesses you can start on a shoe string budget and be instantly profitable.  One such business idea is the residential house cleaning business.  It may be hard to believe, but even in an economic drawback, people are still paying for house cleaners.   People don’t consider it a luxury when they work two or three jobs and they come home to a messy house.  They would prefer to pay someone else to do it rather than do it themselves.  Whether it is because they dislike housekeeping work or they believe that their additional jobs more than offset the price of house cleaning, either way it helps your bottom line.

It is really easy to get in to the house cleaning business.  You really don’t need equipment other than cleaning supplies.  Advertising can be done on the Internet which saves so much money versus traditional marketing costs.  Pretty soon you’ll get your first customers and things will snowball from there through word of mouth referrals.  Starting a cleaning business is probably the best option available through a recession.
